Pot Marigolds, Lettuce, Larkspur

I have two large beds of earth in my front garden in which I combine herbs, strawberries, vegetables and flowers. Last year pot marigolds made a wonderful splash of colour. Inspired by a programme on television called The Allotment Challenge I plan to grow larkspur. It's pretty colours will add charm to my cottage style vegetable/flower patch.

Mild January

This morning after I worked on my new novel and checked my e-mails, I weeded another bed in the front garden. It is a mild January day on which the sun is shining and the birds are chirruping. My hanging baskets and window boxes are full of cyclamen and geraniums all in flower. The front garden is like a French potager in which I grow vegetables and flowers. At the moment the broad beans look very healthy and the pot marigolds still have some flowers. Bit by bit I'm getting rid of the weeds.

Weeds and Pot Marigolds

The weeds have been growing like crazy, and the Lady's Mantle had finished flowering in a long narrow border, so I weeded and pruned this morning. Must say the pot marigolds look marvellous they are about two and a half feet tall, usually they are only about fifteen inches tall.
